Study Arabic Abroad: Ifrane, Morocco

Summer 2010 Arabic Language and North African Studies Program

Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane

Application Deadline: April 21, 2010

Over the last 10 years, more than 500 students from 25 nationalities, most of them affiliated with North American universities, have come to the Middle Atlas Mountains in Ifrane, Morocco, to develop their Arabic language skills, learn about North Africa, and experience various aspects of Moroccan culture through club activities and field trips to such places as the sand dunes of southern Morocco, the historical medina of Fez, and the dazzling city of Marrakech.

Morocco is a good jumping-off point for those who need a gentle introduction to the region and it continues to be the safe environment it has always been. Ifrane is a pleasant summer refuge to return to from the varied excursions around the country, and intensive language study can easily be punctuated with quick trips to the medina in Fez, Meknes, or local villages.

4-Week Program: May 31 – June 25, or June 28 – July 23

8-Week Program: May 31 – July 23
