Lecture: “Iranian Shiism in Ottoman Sunni Iraq: Prelude to Today” by Gökhan Çetinsaya on Nov 10th

On Tuesday, November 10th at 4pm in 5243 Humanities Building Professor Gökhan Çetinsaya will be giving a lecture entitled “Iranian Shiism in Ottoman Sunni Iraq: Prelude to Today.”

Professor Gökhan Çetinsaya is the President of the Istanbul Þehir University. His PhD dissertation, completed at the University of Manchester, England, received both the Malcolm H. Kerr (MESA, USA) and Leigh Douglas (BRISMES, UK) awards. He taught at Hacettepe University in Ankara and chaired the Humanities and Social Sciences Department at Istanbul Technical University. Dr. Çetinsaya has published The Ottoman Administration of Iraq 1890-1908 (London, 2006) and numerous articles on the history of the Ottoman Empire and modern Turkey, modern Turkish political thought, the history and politics of the Middle East, and Turkish foreign policy.
