Job Opening: Associate Professor in Arabic Language and Literature at Washington University in St. Louis

Washington University in St. Louis is seeking candidates for a faculty position at the rank of associate professor with tenure in the field of Arabic Language and Literature to begin in the Fall 2010.  The appointment will be made in the Department of Asian and Near Eastern Languages and Literature.  Preferred areas of teaching and research include one or more of the following: Arabic poetry and poetics, theatre, film, cultural studies, and narrative theory and fiction.  The successful candidate will teach Arabic language and literature courses and contribute to the Arabic curriculum development.  Conducting research, publishing in scholarly venues, and serving on departmental committees are among the responsibilities.  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but priority will be given to those applications received by November 15th, 2009.  Applications should include curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and supporting materials about research and teaching.
